Head of Tax/Director of Tax Advisory and Planning
- Certified Public Accountant,
- CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®
A Certified Public Accountant and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional with more than 20 years of experience, Eric is a senior member of the Advanced Planning Strategies Team. Serving as the Head of Tax, he helps lead our tax planning experts’ efforts to identify tax planning opportunities for clients and ensure tax planning is integrated into their overall financial outlook and strategy. He specializes in tax guidance for retirement planning, equity compensation and small business.
Eric joined Edelman Financial Engines in 2024. Previously, he was Head of Tax at a New York-based financial advisory firm. He also held tax optimization roles at Fidelity and Ernst and Young.
Eric finds tax planning to be a welcome mental challenge that allows him to have a meaningful impact on his clients’ lives. He is especially proud of times when he can help a client find a tax strategy they did not previously know about that ultimately helps enhance their financial security. He particularly enjoys helping clients learn about potentially valuable opportunities such as avoiding double taxation on stock options, leveraging mega backdoor Roth 401k plans, and using the qualified small business stock exclusion. He’s also proud to have been cited in a Congressional hearing about the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
When he’s not advising clients, Eric is educating future tax professionals as an adjunct professor of tax at Seton Hall University.
A lifelong New Jersey resident, Eric also enjoys traveling, including visiting his family in Spain. While at home, he spends some of his spare time trying all the pizza places in New Jersey and New York City.
Eric earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Rutgers University; a Master of Science degree in taxation and a Master of Science degree in accounting, both from Seton Hall University; and a Master of Business Administration in quantitative finance from New York University.
