Katie Klingensmith

Vice President, Investment Strategist

  • Master in Public Policy; Harvard University

With more than 25 years of experience, Katie uses her passion for research, wealth management and client communication to advise clients on how investment strategy can help them meet their financial goals.

Katie joined Edelman Financial Engines in 2025 and has expertise in global macroeconomics, bond markets, asset allocation, asset management, monetary policy, currencies and public policy. Previously, she held a leadership role at Franklin Templeton, where she led a client product management team supporting a large global fixed income platform. In that role, she ran a complicated global asset management business with retail and institutional clients, which involved her in client communications, writing, fund launches, media and more.

Katie started her career on the policy side as an analyst at the Federal Reserve Board and an international economist at the US Treasury. There she was able to apply her policy and economics background and get a taste for Washington, DC. She then moved to Switzerland to work on currency research on the private client platform for UBS where she got engaged with broader research coverage and was tasked to lead many conversations bringing that research to life for clients. In a decade of work with UBS, she also spoke extensively with client groups, facilitated conferences and supported advisors.

With a true love for her work, Katie feels particularly lucky that she started her career more oriented towards academics and analytics and has, over time, been called to increasingly work with clients. She is deeply motivated by bringing complicated stories to life, educating people and solving problems. Katie is fascinated by politics and economics and feels so fortunate to have a career where she gets to think and speak on the way these topics impact people.

Katie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in history and public policy from Swarthmore College and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University. She was also a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Coimbra, Portugal and a Rotary Fellow at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and three kids and is deeply committed to community engagement. She serves on the board of SFCASA, the local chapter of a national foster care advocacy organization. She also coordinates at a local food bank distribution site. She has long served in leadership roles in her children’s schools and has a particular interest in programs that address achievement gaps and access to education.
