To Care for Aging Relatives

It's not just your own care you can expect to pay for. Many families are responsible for elder care in the U.S., and much of that help is financial. Many face this burden while raising children, creating a "sandwich generation" estimated to include 34 million people. Empty nesters find themselves with a full house again as newly unemployed children move back in  -- alongside grandparents who can no longer live independently, either for financial or medical reasons. Add in college costs, the additional financial burden of a suddenly enlarged household – and the lost income caused by the need to care for a parent with health issues – and the situation can quickly overwhelm the unprepared.
