For over 30 years, Ric Edelman been dedicated to teaching everyday people about personal finance.

When Ric Edelman and his partner and wife Jean launched Edelman Financial Services in 1987, their aim was to upend the traditional practices of the financial industry by subscribing to one simple but ultimately radical principle: Refuse to be salespeople. Critical of financial planners who approached their jobs as if they were salesmen — pushing whatever investment idea was hot at the moment and not always acting in the best interest of their clients — Edelman would be different. Ric’s client-centric approach resonated with the everyday American families looking for straightforward financial help.

Ric’s unique approach to helping people earned him the 2017 IARFC’s Loren Dunton Memorial Award, given to an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the financial services profession and/or the financial interests of the public.1

Today Ric is widely regarded as one of the nation’s top financial advisors, having been named in 2016 among the country’s Top 10 Wealth Advisors by Forbes magazine2 and the nation’s #1 Independent Financial Advisor (three times) by Barron’s,3

As a #1 New York Times bestselling author with more than 1 million copies collectively in print, Ric’s ten books on personal finance have been translated into several languages and have educated countless people worldwide. The Truth About Money, recognized with an Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Book of the Year Award from the Institute for Financial Literacy (March 2011),4 is a comprehensive, practical, "how-to" manual on financial planning, and is one of the most highly acclaimed books in the personal finance field. His other titles include The Lies About Money, The Truth About Retirement Plans and IRAs, and Rescue Your Money . His ninth book, The Truth About Your Future, published in March 2017, reveals how exponential technologies will alter virtually every aspect of your life — with profound implications for your personal finances.  His most recent book and his first children’s book, The Squirrel Manifesto, teaches kids—and their parents—the value of spending money, saving for the future, and giving to charity.

The Ric Edelman Show has been airing on the radio for more than 25 years and is heard throughout the country. In 2019, Ric was named among the top 100 radio talk shows hosts by TALKERS magazine, making it the seventh year the editors have named him one of the most important radio talk show hosts in America.5 Ric’s television series and specials, The Truth About Money, airs on Public Television stations across the U.S. and in Asia.

Ric taught personal finance at Georgetown University for nine years and has guest lectured at Roger Williams University, George Washington University and Rowan University, where he was the first to be awarded the title of Distinguished Lecturer. He is also a state- and AICPA-approved instructor for continuing professional education and was a FINRA Arbitrator.

Ric graduated cum laude from Rowan University in 1980. The university bestowed upon him an honorary doctorate in 1999. In December 2012, Ric graduated from the Executive Program at Singularity University. Ric is on the advisory board of Rowan University’s College of Communication & Creative Arts, and in 2007 was inducted into the Rowan Public Relations Student Society Hall of Fame. The university named both its planetarium (2002) and fossil park (2016) after Ric and Jean Edelman in recognition of their financial support to the university.
